Sleepwalker

The day was grey and dreary
And it passed without event
As I lay upon the couch and flipped the channels
I guess I drifted off to sleep during the evening news
It was late when I awoke still groggy and confused
On was a late night movie and I felt a little ill
A man who in a deep, deep sleep had been hypnotized to kill
Making murder death and Mayhem and yet lacking any feeling
An implication couldn't pass me, left my head a reeling
I walked the streets and tried to look into every single face
And I felt a hopeless vacuum as if something had been erased
What had we done or been doing all along?
Some collective unconscious memory loss and while we slept it had gone very very wrong
Now when we turn off the light, do we murder in our sleep and think we are doing right?

Well we're once removed, like we are walking in a daze
Must have been asleep this way for days
And all this senseless killing
It's really not a dream
I want to run to the top of the world and scream
But we can never wake the sleepwalker
Can we never wake the sleepwalker
Must we never wake the sleepwalker?

Well the doctor's patient trusted him
And he swore to never leave him
He told him it was unsafe out there
and even warned him of the killings
But the very thing he caused was the very thing he dread
By day he's soothed with mindless lies
At night he's off his head
They say the sleepwalker can tell the future
Has predictions especially for you
If you ask he'll say that you will die tomorrow
And spend that night just making it come true

How do you sleep at night?
Are your dreams all filled with blood?
Or do you rest just a little too easy
Safe under the weight of the flood?
Maybe you've been placated?
Maybe you believe the lies?
Maybe we've been brain washed to refuse to sympathize?
Maybe you believe in superior race and care less when people die?
Maybe you believe in a master plan, not the one by God but the one by man?
Maybe you believe their soldier's tale, believe that glory can come this way?
I believe that when glory comes, when glory comes it will wash this all away!

Well we're once removed, like we are walking in a daze
Must have been asleep this way for days
And all this senseless killing
Its really not a dream
I want to run to the top of the world and scream
But we can never wake the sleepwalker
Can we never wake the sleepwalker
Must we never wake the sleepwalker?
